We believe that creativity is the most important asset we have and that it is largely underutilized. One reason is the way in which we think of our innate talents as limited or non-existent. Whereas as children we drew, danced and sang with abandon, we now retreat to more narrowly defined roles as to how we might participate. In this way, we separate ourselves from a great well of creative possibilities.
This site is a window into a wide variety of how the creative expression can be manifested. In particular, it offers examples that emerge from the fusion of architecture and art, seamlessly intertwined since the dawn of human history, but within the last 80 years relegated to separate corners of the room. Like the separation from the joy of our childhood artfulness, both we and the architecture are impoverished.
On the most practical level, these separations don’t serve us. It limits our creative imagination. Indeed, we see the great potential in breaking down the walls that separate us from fully engaging this most valuable resource. Just as architecture + art can open to new solutions and new avenues of expression, deepening the meaning of places we inhabit, any individual or enterprise can benefit and be nourished by a more holistic appreciation of what we have to offer.
The artwork featured on this site is but one expression of the creative potential inside each and every one of us. Clearly, there are many forms of creativity that influence a strategic response to a problem. Too often, they are narrowly defined and tentatively practiced. However, the effectiveness and quality of any endeavor can be exponentially enhanced if our creative impulse can inspire our strategic initiatives. We believe in this innate potential and call on it to inform our work and the work of our collaborators.
While this may sound simplistic, recognizing our relatedness in the work we perform is essential for realizing our collaborative potential in the work we do. The problem is that our drive to categorize, to differentiate, to specialize has given us tunnel vision. To simply ask the question – how does this relate to what’s around it? – opens up a world of opportunities.
Creativity is as important as literacy.
